We are proud to share that Anton Tracy and Kai Handy-Kanegis, both captains of the DC Stars Hockey Club, have been selected to represent youth hockey officials at the January 3rd Washington Capitals game, where they will skate out with the referees and remain on the ice with the Caps and Blackhawk players for the national anthem. This is a tremendous honor and a reflection of their dedication to the game.
Anton and Kai are USA Hockey Level 2 officials and have been refereeing for over two years. What began as an enjoyable early job opportunity, turned into something much more meaningful. Through officiating, they’ve gained a deeper understanding of the sport, seeing the game through the eyes of a referee—an experience that has strengthened their knowledge, judgment, and appreciation for hockey. Both have expressed that they plan to continue officiating into adulthood, not only as a great way to earn money, but because it offers them an additional avenue to stay connected to the sport they love.
The DC Stars are thrilled to have many players who devote time to on the ice beyond their commitment to the team. We would like to highlight Walter Bernstein and Aaron Kong, who are also invested in developing their skills and leadership on the ice as youth hockey officials; and Ian Cox, who volunteers as a mentor and coach for those just starting out in hockey, helping lay the foundation for the next generation of players.
Please join us in congratulating all of these outstanding young leaders. Their hard work and dedication reflect the very best of the DC Stars community. Go Stars!
