Varsity Advances to the Next Round of Playoffs with a 6-1 Win Over Richard Montgomery

The Stars were looking to bounce back from a disappointing loss the previous week on Senior Night, but they knew that they would have their work cut out for them. In the only matchup during the regular season, Richard Montgomery upended the DC Stars four to one.

It turned out the Stars were ready to enact a little revenge. Five minutes into the first period, Treysen Shi broke free for a wicked shot that found its way through the Maryland team's goalie. DC's relentless pressure kept Richard Montgomery on their heels through most of the second period, but none of the eight shots on goal got through the goalie. As the last minute of the period ticked down, Shi found a captain Walter Bernstein charging toward the crease and the captain landed his tenth goal of the season.

Richard Montgomery was not ready to quit. Three minutes into the third period, the Maryland team cut the Stars lead in half. That is when the DC boys went to work. Aaron Kong's goal off of a Bernstein pass put the Stars up three to one. Shortly after Julien Poimboeuf sent a wicked pass to Ian Cox in front of the net. Cox drove the goal home extending the lead. That fourth goal seemed to take the wind out of Richard Montgomery's sails. With less than four minutes to go, Jonathon Lust sent a rocket that bounced off the Montgomery goalie. Patrick Kaufmann was right there to quickly slap the puck into the net. Treysen Shi then landed his second goal of the night a short while later.

The DC team will face-off against top seeded Winston Churchill on February 6th.
