The DC Stars Volunteered at the Washington Capitals Garage Sale

Over 1,200 fans showed up at the Capitals "garage" sale at the Medstar Iceplex on Saturday. Most of them left with arm loads of Capitals bobbleheads, hats, pennants, dog bowls, and other assorted surplus Capitals Merchandise. Organizing the products, managing he crowds and breaking down boxes took a lot of effort.

The Monumental Sports marketing and events team were excited to have five DC Stars players, and a few parents show up to help. The extra hands from the DC Stars allowed the Monumental Sports staff to focus on other matters such as collecting payments and engaging with the fans.

Ian Cox said, "It feels good to give back. Hockey is like a family. And I think Monumental gave our team some money this year." The kid was correct. Proceeds from the event will go to the Monumental Sports and Entertainment Foundation. The foundation contributed $5,000 to the DC Stars scholarship fund this season to support greater access to hockey, especially for student athletes of color. The team's support of events like this is about more than just giving back to our partners. Community engagement grows awareness for our team, helps to attract new partners, and reinforces a sense of civic pride within our players.

Big thanks to Patrick K., Julien P., Arianna W., Roman S., and Ian C., for giving their time and energy to support the event. Each are eligible to community service hours for their schools. Arianna's mom and Ian's mom are eligible for big ol' high fives.
